Happy Hump Day! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Yesterday was a beautiful day in Fayetteville, and I took advantage of it and got outside for a bit!

On Monday I officially submitted my thesis to my committee, and yesterday I sent off my poster to be printed! Tomorrow afternoon I will be presenting my poster, followed by a ceremony afterward to honor all of us honors students who completed a thesis in my college. Next Monday I will be presenting my thesis to my committee, and then I only have to make a few changes after that before submitting it to the Honors College. I'm so excited that I'm almost done!

I would love it if you would follow my blog! :)

Not Your Average Push-Up

Push-ups are one of the best exercises for your body. They work your entire body, and work on both strength and stability. You can alter a push-up in a number of ways to mix things up, and above is a variation of the push-up called the "side push-up." With side push-ups, from the waist up you are set exactly the same way as a normal push-up. From the waist down, however, your legs and feet are turned to the side in the same way as an oblique plank. This isolates one side of your chest and work the obliques. Try doing ten on one side, and then ten on the other side. To modify this move, simply bend the knee of the bottom leg and let the shin rest on the floor, similar to push-ups from the knees.

Sunday night one of my fellow group exercise instructors/best friends came to my group exercise class! She was my lovely photographer of these push-up pictures, and in return for taking them, I'm giving her a feature on the blog!

Meet Taylor! She's been one of my best friends for a few years, and we are both crazy about exercise and healthy lifestyles! She's a Cotton Physiology Graduate student here at the University of Arkansas (I know nothing about it, so don't even ask, haha!), and we met our freshman year in the honors dorm on campus! She's crazy random and one of the most loyal friends I've ever had! My life just wouldn't be as colorful without her!

Pink Lemonade on Sunday

Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target (sold out)

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a great weekend! My camping trip with friends was very successful over the weekend! The temperatures were perfect, and it was great to spend some time outdoors. Apartment hunting in Conway also went good! My roommate and I have narrowed it down to just a couple places that we are really interested in, and hopefully within the next month we'll have a lease signed!

Yesterday was Palm Sunday, and I hope everyone had a great one! I dressed in spring brights, and ended up being told I looked like pink lemonade, hence the name of the post (ps, did you know that low heels are back in style? My low heel nude pumps are my new favorite, such a friend to my feet!). Church was wonderful as we studied Matthew 21:

"They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and the others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, 'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!'" (vs 7-9)

Well, tomorrow I'm back to another fitness post! I would love it if you would follow this blog! :)

Plateau Fighting Squats + Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert

One of my favorite things to do with my workouts is to tweak moves just a little to make it a little harder, which helps fight the plateau. This move is an alteration to the simple plie/sumo squat. Start on your tip-toes with a wide stance and toes pointed out, slowly move down into the squat staying on your tip-toes, and slowly move back up to the start position. This really engages every muscle as you have to fight for balance. Remember to keep your core tight if you are having trouble staying balanced.

This move may be incorporated into your workout a few times per week. It really works the glutes, hips, and hamstrings (perfect for swimsuit season!). To make this move a little bit harder, you can add dumbbells or a bar. Remember, start simple, and slowly work your way up. This move will work you hard without any weight at all.

On a totally different note, last night I made up a new healthy dessert: Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert!

Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert
  • 1 piece bread of choice
  • 1 tablespoon non-fat cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
Cut the piece of bread in half and spread non-fat cream cheese. Add blueberries and fold like a sandwich. Either grill in a pan on the stove, or pop into a panini maker. Serve immediately!
With the bread that I used, this sweet treat added up to only 120 Calories!

The Laidback Graphic Tee

Graphic Tee: TJ Maxx

Plaid: Forever 21
Sandals: (old)

Last night C and I joined some friends for a Ben Rector concert that the University of Arkansas sponsored (thanks U of A for the free concert!). If you've never heard Ben Rector (which I hadn't until last night), I highly recommend you check him out! I might be a little bit biased because he's an Arkansas Alumni (woo pig!), but really, he's just great.

I hope everyone is as ready to dive into the weekend as I am! Tonight I'll be taking on my second camping trip ever (yes, in a tent), followed by apartment hunting in Conway on Saturday. I hope you have a great weekend!

God Bless!

No More Bad Hair

If there's one thing that I really hate about the fact that enjoy working out so much, it's my hair problems. I am quite the girly girl, so I really enjoy fixing my hair and having it look cute all day long. However, with my frequent gym visits and group exercise classes that I teach, my hair just doesn't stay very cute looking for long.

Enter the wonderful invention of dry shampoo.

Tresemme is my personal favorite when it comes to dry shampoos. I have tried several different ones, and I advise you to be careful in which one you choose, because some of them do have very strong smells to them. This particular dry shampoo does wonders to post-workout sweaty hair. Even when you blow dry your hair to dry the sweat, the hair still has a matted look to it. Once you spray this Tresemme dry shampoo into your hair and rub it into the scalp, it instantly revitalizes hair and adds volume. Here's a secret, sometimes when I'm curling my clean hair (right after a shower), I add this dry shampoo into my hair to get extra volume and texture.  It just allows the curls to stay better in curled hair, and keeps hair from going flat when I straighten it. Overall, this is my go-to product for my hair.

Spring Pastels

C was making me laugh!
Gingham: Marshalls
Sweater: Old Navy
Boots: Frye
Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target
Necklace: Groopdealz
Bracelets: Groopdealz

Because of my love for fashion and all things related to clothes, shoes, and jewelry, I couldn't help but make at least one post a week about outfits. Everything in my outfit except for the boots are a year old, but I love making new outfits out of old clothes!

Last night C and I went out for dinner to celebrate the fact that I turned in my entire first draft of my thesis. This meant that I actually had a night free of staring at documents about sweat and skin blood flow (delightful topic I know). Sadly, the fun won't last long because I'll be getting back all of my professor's edits today and have to re-do a lot of it, but one night off was so relaxing!

Because most of my days are spent either teaching group exercise or staring at my thesis, my hair has literally looked like this everyday for the past three weeks. If my hair is ever fixed between now and graduation, that means it must be an exceptionally good day! Yesterday was a chilly day in Fayetteville, so I was excited to break out my pastel purple sweater! C told me I was looking like an Easter egg! Anyway, happy hump day everyone!

God Bless!
