Plateau Fighting Squats + Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert

One of my favorite things to do with my workouts is to tweak moves just a little to make it a little harder, which helps fight the plateau. This move is an alteration to the simple plie/sumo squat. Start on your tip-toes with a wide stance and toes pointed out, slowly move down into the squat staying on your tip-toes, and slowly move back up to the start position. This really engages every muscle as you have to fight for balance. Remember to keep your core tight if you are having trouble staying balanced.

This move may be incorporated into your workout a few times per week. It really works the glutes, hips, and hamstrings (perfect for swimsuit season!). To make this move a little bit harder, you can add dumbbells or a bar. Remember, start simple, and slowly work your way up. This move will work you hard without any weight at all.

On a totally different note, last night I made up a new healthy dessert: Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert!

Healthy Grilled Cheese Dessert
  • 1 piece bread of choice
  • 1 tablespoon non-fat cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
Cut the piece of bread in half and spread non-fat cream cheese. Add blueberries and fold like a sandwich. Either grill in a pan on the stove, or pop into a panini maker. Serve immediately!
With the bread that I used, this sweet treat added up to only 120 Calories!

  2. This is a great workout tip! I get bored doing the same moves over and over again so it's nice to mix it up. Also, I love grilled cheese in every form...that looks incredible.
