The Deceiving Mirror

All women have a natural tendency to look in the mirror and automatically pick out their flaws or think they need to lose weight. Let me say that again. ALL WOMEN have a natural tendency to look in the mirror and automatically pick out their flaws or think they need to lose weight.

When it comes to feeling secure and pretty, we are our own worst enemies. Many women have the goal of losing weight, which is a good goal to have when pursuing a healthy lifestyle. However, a problem rises when you are constantly running to the mirror to check how you look and constantly put yourself down when you aren't quite satisfied with what you see.

Let me let you in on a little secret. Most women see themselves distorted in the mirror. When you look at your under eyes and think you have giant bags, chances are they aren't even close to as bad as you think. When you look at yourself in the mirror when trying on outfits, generally you will see yourself as wider or bigger than you really are. This happens to everyone, including those women that you think are super fit and slim! The problem is that our society today leads us to believe that we have to be skinnier to be prettier, and that is just not true.

So what can we do about this problem? Stop saying negative things to yourself when you look in the mirror! Pick out what you love about yourself, and tell that to yourself daily. In order to be motivated in your weight loss goals, you have to be positive, and this is how to be positive. If you are weighing yourself everyday and not seeing results, maybe you should measure your waist line instead. Losing inches is progress even if the number on the scale isn't shrinking! Also, if you are feeling healthier or more energized everyday, then even that is progress! Progress does not mean skinnier, progress means healthier.
